Floyd Mayweather’s Igorant Response To The #MeToo Movement

Boxing legend Floyd “Money” Mayweather has been caught up in a whirlwind of controversy after giving a seemingly oblivious response regarding the “Me Too” women’s equality movement online.

Mayweather has a penchant for acting arrogant and cocky, but it seems this may be his undoing, as his comments are about to show you. The reactions online have been absolutely scathing, and deservingly so.

The movement seeks to help women to share stories of their harassment or assaults at the hands of men around the world. It was started by actress Alyssa Milano on Twitter, urging women who had been sexually harassed or assaulted to write “me too” as a response to her tweet. Mayweather has previously been charged with multiple counts of battery and domestic violence against different spouses over the last few years.

“The who?” Mayweather said while being interviewed by Men’s Health magazine in the article “Mayweather Boxing + Fitness.”
“When you say, ‘Me too’ … when somebody is like, ‘I got a Rolls Royce, I be like, ‘Me too,”‘ Mayweather continued on with.
“When somebody say they got a private jet, I say, ‘Me too. I got two. Me too.’”

Mayweather, who took home around $100 million in his last boxing fight against UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor is now believed to be worth around $450 million. He claims he’d never heard of the confessions from victims of sexual assault before, labelling this as “very different”.
“Well, I didn’t know!” he said.

“My ‘Me Too’ movement from the beginning was whenever somebody said what they have I’m like, ‘Me too.’ Somebody say they got a billion dollars, I say, ‘I made a billion dollars, me too.’”
Mayweather went on to shun sexual assault and harassment further into the article, but that has done nothing to quell the backlash against him for his comments.
“Of course. I mean, you live and you learn,” Mayweather said.

“I think everyone, if you’re in an uncomfortable position, you have to pray about it, you know, talk about it, and I think that, you know, sexual harassment, I don’t think it’s cool at all.”
Mayweather has previously made comments regarding the assault of women by United States president Donald Trump, saying his “grab them by the pussy” comment was an example of how “real men” speak to one another.

“Real men speak like, ‘Man, she had a fat ass. You see her ass? I had to squeeze her ass. I had to grab that fat ass.’ Right?”

“So he talking locker room talk. Locker room talk. ‘I’m the man, you know what I’m saying? You know who I am. Yeah, I grabbed her by the pussy.”

No wonder Mayweather’s been getting slammed back and forth across the internet by women who are part of the “me too” movement. What are your thoughts on the situation? Check out the reactions from women around the world below and let us know in the comment section!
