Pilot Gives Chilling In-Flight Message, Passengers Freak When They Look Out The Window

A United Airlines flight was making its way to Honolulu, Hawaii, from San Francisco, California, when the pilot suddenly made a chilling in-flight announcement. As soon as passengers heard what he said, they glanced out their windows and freaked over what they saw.

United flight #UA1175 was approximately 36 minutes from landing in Honolulu when a loud bang was heard and the pilot came over the intercom with an announcement that no passenger wants to hear. In fact, as soon as the passengers on the plane heard what he had to say, they were left absolutely terrified by what they saw happening outside of their windows.

Come to find out, there was something wrong with the plane. To the horror of everyone on the flight, “scraps of metal and other pieces of the engine were flapping in the wind,” according to Daily Mail. Several passengers were terrified by what they saw, while many others trusted their pilot and simply began to take photos and video of the incident.

“That looks bad, plane and simple,” tweeted Google UX Engineer Erik Haddad.

“I don’t see anything about this in the manual,” he added, jokingly showing an open safety manual and the engine in the background.

Another passenger, Maria Falaschi, uploaded a series of photos while describing the incident as the “scariest flight of my life.” Of course, she added that the pilots did “a great job and so did the crew.”

During an interview after the plane landed, one passenger, Haley Ebert, shared her experience. “Everyone on our side flung open their windows just to see what it was,” she recalled. “That casing to the engine had sort of flown off,” she added.

“There were pieces flying into the ocean, nuts and bolts flying out a little bit,” she continued. “A bolt hit the wing, and it just made this hug bam.” She also discussed the intense shaking after the noise. “Back and forther, down one side and down to the other side. The whole thing felt like it was a roller coaster going to go off the tracks.”

The flight faced a difficult landing process, but the pilot was ultimately able to successfully bring the aircraft down without anyone sustaining any injury. Thankfully, the plane landed safely in Honolulu, where Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting immediately rushed to the scene.

However, those final moments were terrifying for the passengers on the plane as they were instructed to cross their arms on the seat in front of them and to brace for impact.

In a statement, United Airlines detailed that the covering of the engine was the piece that fell off. “United flight 1175 traveling to Honolulu from San Francisco landed safely after the pilots called for an emergency landing because of a loss of the engine cowling (the covering of the engine),” the airline announced. “Our pilots followed all necessary protocols to safely land the aircraft. The aircraft taxied to the gate and passengers deplaned normally.”

It is not clear what caused the malfunction, but they are determined to get to the bottom of it. Currently, United is “fully cooperating” with investigations by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board, according to The Guardian.

Although not everyone is afraid of flying in a plane, an incident like this will surely sway you in that direction. Without a doubt, everyone involved is grateful that it was just a “piece of plastic” that broke off. Thankfully, everyone was able to survive and no serious harm was done, but I can guarantee that someone on that flight has already sworn to never step foot on a plane again.
